A-GRADE
Yea’s A-Grade cricketers travelled to Avenel on Saturday to kick off the 2017-18 season.
Yea won the toss and elected to bat. Yea was off to a good start with Ben Tarran (13) and Cam Armstrong (34) putting runs on the board. Yea struggled to adjust to a up-and-down pitch and fell to a middle order collapse with Matt Lockhart (17) and James Clavarino attempting to stem the tide. Yea were all out for 77.
Even with strong bowling performances for Yea’s pace attack of Corey Malcom and Aidan McSpeerin, Yea was unable to defend their score with Avenel passing them two wickets down, Cam Armstrong taking the only two wickets. Yea will attempt to redeem themselves this weekend as they take on Kilmore at home.

B-GRADE
Yea Tigers B-Grade has started its season off in great fashion.
After lo sing the toss and being sent into bat Yea started a bit shaky, losing a wicket early on before new comer Ash Cook and captain Dan O’Dwyer steadied the ship.
After Ash was dismissed for 16 and shortly after Ben Holman for 3, another new player Michael Waghorn came to the crease and consolidated with O’Dwyer for a great partnership. After Waghorn was dismissed for 24 and O’Dwyer for 52 and some late hitting from Jack Christie, the Tigers were dismissed for 140.
Avenel’s batting was less than impressive with Yea’s bowling been very impressive.
Star with the ball was 14-year-old Ruby O’Dwyer in her first B-Grade game claiming the figures 5/21 off five overs.
Other wicket takers for Yea were Lachie Beattie 2/6, Jack Christie 2/18 and Ben Holman taking one wicket. Avenel were all out for 61.
A special occassion happened on Saturday with three members of the O’Dwyer family members representing B-Grade. Dad Tom couldn’t wipe the smile of his face.
