Radio fundraiser
Yarra Valley FM is holding a fund-raising trivia night on Saturday (Oct. 14) from 7pm at Mt Evelyn RSL.
There will be silent auctions, games, entertainment, prizes and giveaways with all proceeds going to the station.
The night will be held by two of Yarra Valley’s presenters, Neil Bull and Robert Jordan.

Plan for justice
Mitchell Shire Council has developed its first social justice framework, which aims to promote equal rights and opportunities for people in the Mitchell community.
The draft four-year plan is based on input from the community and is now ready to view.

Homeless suffer
More than 80 people in Mansfield are sleeping rough, according to a local man who has had to stay on the streets since being evicted from his rental property.
The disabled local pensioner, who suffers from a debilitating illness, said that the problem of homelessness in Mansfield is far bigger than anyone imagines.
“Homelessness in Mansfield is becoming epidemic,” said the man. “And it will continue to grow. “The homeless in Mansfield are hiding.”

Aust. Day changes
Strathbogie Shire Councillors, at their September ordinary meeting held at Graytown, resolved to eliminate the need for a shire-wide Australia Day event.
Local Australia Day celebrations will take place in Avenel, Euroa, Longwood, Nagambie, Strathbogie and Violet Town on January 26 in 2018.
The shire will discontinue the shire-wide event and present shire-wide awards at the local event of the recipient

Yarra warning
Water lovers have been warned not to take the Yarra River in Warrandyte lightly after figures revealed the 242km long body of water was the most dangerous in Australia.
More lives per metre of river are lost from drowning in the Yarra than in any other stretch of inland water in Australia.

Kangaroo cull
The Australian Society For Kangaroos has gone to the Supreme Court to save a mob of about 400 kangaroos sentenced to death in a mass cull at Epping.
A group of “wildlife warriors” has been guarding the mob since the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources launched the cull in August.
When wildlife officers moved in on August 25 to begin to shoot, 22 kangaroos died before more than 100 protesters interrupted the killing.
