Some readers who have a connection with the Long family may be interested in today’s relaunch of the www.Long.com.au website
The website includes theĀ Nothing Without LabourĀ 10,000-word publication, with the first revised edition since the 1980s. The project details the arrival of James Long in Australia in November 1851, some 166 years ago. The family traces its Australian origins back to Nathaniel Lucas who arrived in 1788.
The Long family has had a connection with the Murrindindi area since the 1980s through its newspaper holdings, and the family purchased land at Kinglake in the 1940s.
Hi, can you tell me who are James Long’s parents? My ggfather was Joseph Long Bowles who arrived in Victoria around 1870 from Cambridgeshire/Norfolk.
James Long – the subject of our story – was son of James Long Snr and Eliza Smith.
