700 visitors this weekend to Alexandra, Mt Disappointment

Up to 700 people will be coming to Alexandra this weekend (Sat.-Sun., Nov. 18-19) to partucipate in a ‘geocaching’ treasure-hunt type game.
Bernie Holloway, Treasurer of Geocaching Melbourne, says 400 teams will be coming from every Australian state, New Zealand, Europe and America, and basing themselves at the Alexandra Showgrounds.
“Geocaching is a family friendly treasure hunt type game where people search for hidden containers using GPS enable devices (GPS receivers or even a smartphone),” Mr Holloway said.
“The containers are general small Tupperware type containers but can be as large as a 20-litre sealed bucket or as small as thimble. The containers will generally contain a log book to sign when you find it and may also have some “treasure” or trinkets for the kids to swap.
“They are usually hidden in or near places of interest.
“There are more than three million containers hidden all over the world with more than 400 in Murrindindi alone,” said Mr Holloway.
“What’s the point in chasing a little white golf ball around? It gets us out of the house, away from the TV; we get lots of exercise and see all sorts of new places.”
“You should see lots of cars with window flags attached.
“We will be based at the showgrounds but will be all around town and the surrounding Murrindindi region.”
There is a Power Trail of 300+ caches at Mt Disappointment
There will be a free 5pm Saturday barbecue for attendees. A ceremony will commence at 6pm.
