Police are investigating following a burglary and ram raid at Montmorency this morning.

It is understood thieves drove a gold coloured Nissan through doors of a service station at the intersection of Rattray Road and Wellington Street Montmorency about 5.30am. It is believed they stole cigarettes and cash.

The two people then drove away in the Nissan sedan and were driving on the incorrect side of Bolton Street, Eltham where they had a head-on collision with a marked police car travelling in the opposite direction.

The police car spun around and has wedged on rocks.

The police car which sustained extensive damage had two members on board who were not injured.

Police are looking for two people. One of the men was wearing a black hoodie with the word ‘Crooks’ on it. The car is described as a gold Nissan bearing no number plates and has since been recovered in Montmorency.
