‘Washout’ for Yea A-Grade cricketers
Sunday, January 14, 2018
This weekend saw Yea take on Nagambie in A-Grade; the match was played as a one-day fixture after the first week of the match was called off due to heat the week before.
Nagambie won the toss and elected to bowl on a slightly damp pitch. Yea made a slow but steady start to their innings with openers Darcy Pell and Ben Tarran accumulating runs with a measured approach.
The Tigers reached drinks for only the loss of Pell (16) from a run out, meaning they had a solid platform to launch from in the second half of their dig.
Corey Malcolm (12) made a start on his first venture up the order this year, Before Matt Lockhart lifted the run rate with a quickfire 31.
However, after reaching 2/90 things went south for Yea, losing a clump of wickets to be bowled out for 115.
Tarran finished as the best of the batsmen, batting the majority of the innings for 35.
Nagambie started solidly, making 5 runs of the first 4 overs for no loss however at this point rain interrupted play and never left, meaning no further play was possible and the match ended in a washout.
Next weekend Yea travels to Avenel for the first week of a two-day game.
