Bushfire memorials: confidential discussion
Saturday, January 20, 2018
Next month (February 2018) sees the nine-year anniversary of the Black Saturday fires, in which 173 lives were lost at the time.
For some years, Murrindindi Shire Council has been discussing bushfire memorials to be erected across the municipality. The discussions have included public meetings, special websites, and the employment of consultants.
The agenda for this week’s meeting of Murrindindi Shire Council, to be held at Yea on Wednesday night (Jan. 24), sees the subject of memorial construction again come before Councillors.
At this stage, discussion of the matter appears likely to be held confidentially. Members of the public are set to be excluded from this section of the meeting. The agenda says the matter is likely to be held behind closed doors because contractural matters will be discussed.
