Nancy Thurlby won the ‘Best in Show’ prize at the Rotary Club of Yea Art Show Opening Night on Thursday (Jan. 25).

Judge Julian Bruere announced Nancy as winner with her ‘Colour My World’ pastel.

Second best in show was awarded to Glenn Hoyle for ‘The Girl with Red Hair’ oil painting.

Major sponsor Frank Hargrave gave shared honours to Diane Hagavist (‘Cafe Near Notre Dame’ water colour) and Alexander Short (‘Sitting On The Dock’ oil).

The Art Show opened at the Yea Shire Hall, with David Anderson as Master of Ceremonies. Club President Marjorie Hamilton and Art Show Chairman John Sinclair welcomed the Opening Night guests. The Show was opened by Rotary Club Charter President Daryl Callander. In attendance were Eildon MLA Cindy McLeish, and Cr Bec Bowles of Murrindindi Shire Council.

• Local Content. Winner: Ted Rowbottom, ‘Autumn Light’ (oil). Highly Commended: Antoinette Blyth, ‘Yea Railway Station’ (pen).
• Miniature. Winner: Alexander Short, ‘Low Tide’ (oil). Highly Commended: Carolyn Marrone, ‘Heading Home’ (water colour).
• Contemporary. Winner: Geoff Paynter “Mungo National Park Forums’ (acrylic). Highly Commended: Stephen McCall, ‘Summer On The High Plains’ (acrylic).
• Traditional.Winner: Pamela Morgan. Fiona Bilbrough, ‘Peaches’ (oil). Highly Commended: Carolyn Marrone, ‘Life in Amalfi (water colour); Do Noble, ‘Countryside’ (oil); Phillip Wischer, ‘A Murrindindi Moment’ (oil).
• Best Work On Paper. Winner: Julie Lundgren-Coulter.
