Disappointment for Yea A-Grade team

Saturday saw Yea’s A-grade cricketers travel back to Avenel for the second day of their two-day match.

Avenel had put themselves in a dominant position the previous week, requiring a further 72 runs with nine wickets in hand when play resumed. Yea made a strong start with Brad Clements claiming an early wicket, however Avenel soon started to build their score.

With not many runs to play with, the injection of Ben Tarran into the bowling attack brought about three wickets to get Yea right back in the game.

Avenel again built a partnership to edge towards their target, but then Andrew Chisholm took two wickets in an over (one courtesy of a blinder of a gully catch from Matt Lockhart) and it was anyone’s game all of a sudden, with three wickets remaining and around 20 runs still to get.

Unfortunately for the Tigers they were unable to claim any further wickets and Avenel passed their total 7 down.

It was a disappointing end to what was a good showing from Yea this week, but they know that the game was lost the week before after a disappointing effort with bat.

Next weekend sees Yea play host to Kilmore in a two-day match.
