Mobile library launch at Toolangi
Friday, August 31, 2018
Murrindindi Shire Council representatives will be joined by Victorian Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes on Monday, september 10, at an official ceremony to mark the return of the Mobile Library and Customer Service van.
Murrindindi Shire Council Community Services Portfolio Councillor Sandice McAulay said everyone is invited to come along to the van’s official launch in Toolangi to help us celebrate this important service.
“The Mobile Library and Customer Service van is a gathering point for small communities and schools with limited or no easy access to services and facilities. It enables and encourages lifelong learning, and its rejuvenation is a symbol of community engagement,” Cr McAulay said.
“None of this would be possible without the support of the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
“Following the refurbishment, the van’s route has been expanded to include three new stops – Glenburn, Toolangi and Highlands. This is in addition to the van’s traditional stops at Strath Creek, Flowerdale, Marysville, Buxton and Eildon.
“Council is committed to ensuring the best possible services are available to all residents of the Shire, no matter how far away they are from the more populated towns. That’s what the Mobile Library and Customer Service van does – it brings people together and it brings Council to people.
“As well as delivering our great library service and fantastic programs, you can also access Council’s customer services on the Mobile Library and Customer Service van too. Everything from paying Council bills by card (or cash up to $50) through to enquiring about a planning matter to lodging a customer request,” Cr McAulay said.
“The Mobile Library and Customer Service van will continue to roll out its much-loved program of ‘On the Couch’ events at a different stops. These events see friends new and old come together for nibbles while Murrindindi Library Services staff preview great books, overseas titles, biographies, award winners, DVDs and eBooks. Follow the Murrindindi Library Services Facebook page to keep up to date with when and where these fantastic events are on.
“In the meantime, please do pop along to the launch event for a piece of cake and a ‘cheers’,” Cr McAulay said.
The event will be held at the Mobile Library and Customer Service van site in Toolangi, adjacent to C J Dennis Hall, on Monday September 10 from 10.30am. Please RSVP to Libby Kotschet at ekotschet@murrindindi.vic.gov.au or 5772 0355.
