Sally Brennan, Labor candidate for Eildon, with fishing celebrity Rex Hunt at the Pondage.

Yibbida, yibbida: trout season opens

The opening of the trout season took place at the Eildon Pondage on Saturday (Sept. 1).

Labor candidate for Eildon, Sally Brennan joined fishing celebrity Rex Hunt at the launch of Victoria’s biggest-ever trout season opening.

The event was held during the Goulburn Fishing Festival.

“This is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Target One Million plan that’s investing a record $46 million to get more people fishing, more often,” Ms Brennan said.

What was so great about today was to see all the dads and mums out with their kids in that glorious environment, out to catch themselves a fish.

“It was pretty special to have Rex Hunt to help you tie your line and set you up. The kids had a ball,”she said.

“I heard that the Eildon Bakery had its biggest day ever, so more people fishing is really good for the local economy, and local job. Get around it!” Sally said.

Trout releases took place last week along the Goulburn River in anticipation of a bumper trout season, with some fish up to 10 kgs.

WIN TV and Nine Border North-East News had reports that included locals including Jacque Garlick, Ray Hopkins and politician Jaclyn Symes MLC (Labor, Northern Victoria Region).
