Yea couple at school reunion

Yea couple Howard and Bev Purcell were at a reunion from the ‘Buckley’ and ‘Brown’ days at Ivanhoe Grammar School on Thursday (Nov. 29).

The ‘Buckley’ era refers to the headmastership of the Rev. Sydney Buckley from 1915 to 1947, which included a two-year stint when the Ivanhoe school moved to Beaufort House, Yea, during the 1942-43 period of World War II.

Howard’s father, Bill Purcell, was a major volunteer in the move.

The ‘Brown’ era refers to the 1948-1974 headmastership of Victor Brown.

More than 100 former students from the two eras met at Buckley Hall, Ivanhoe, for the reunion.
