Mother Eden of St Luke's Anglican Church, Yea

Yea to hold Black Sat. service

A service with a special prayer focus will be held at St Luke’s Anglican Church, Yea, in remembrance of the Black Saturday fires

The service will be held at 11am on Thursday, February 7.

“We are holding a service of remembrance and reflection
and to acknowledge the change and growth that has occurred,” said the Reverend Canon Eden-Elizabeth Nicholls (Mother Eden), Parish Priest.

“Ten years ago, much of Victoria was devastated by the Black Saturday fires. Some173 people died, over 7000 became homeless, innumerable animals perished, and massive quantities of properties were destroyed.

“The township and people of Yea provided a place of refuge and support for many who had been displaced by the fires.

“Over the 10 years since the fires, great changes have occurred within the affected communities, who have shown resilience in the fact of daunting odds in the struggle to rebuild.

“St.Luke’s Anglican Church, Yea, is open every day as a sacred place for
prayer, quiet reflection and sanctuary.”
