‘Squiz’ scores an OAM


Arthurs Creek man Mark ‘Squiz’ Squirrell is being honoured with an OAM in this year’s Australia Day honours.

Mr Squirrell’s citation reads “for service to the international community through humanitarian aid”.

He attended Ivanhoe Grammar School from 1984-89, then joined the Australian Army, serving in the Reserve from 1990-2000.

Global Frontline
• Director, Keynote Speaker and Trainer, since 2009.
• Provided training in preparation for Australian Medical Assistance Team deployments, National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, since 2010.
• Designed Occupational Violence Course for Ambulance Victoria.
• Organiser, Global Frontline Challenge, simulating the plight of refugees, raising funds for Australian Aid International, 2013.
• Designed and delivered training for Australian Medical teams deployed to Sierra Leonne during the Ebola outbreak, Aspen Medical, 2014.

United Nations World Food Program
• Consultant Field Security Officer, since 2009.
• Field Security Officer, with deployments to regions such as the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, 2003-2008.

• Summited Mt Everest, to raise awareness of global hunger, 18th May 2006.

• Security Consultant, undertaking roles in Albania, South Sudan and Afghanistan, 1999-2002.
