Victorian Governor Linda Dessau will visit Whittlesea

A new exhibition, Living With Fire, will open at the Kinglake Heritage Centre this Sunday. It looks at the history of bushfires – including the 1929 and 2009 fires – since early settlement.

Yea River has reverted to Muddy Creek. Environmentalist Russell Wealands said he retrieved an assortment of 30 drink containers, a punctured airbed, noodle and beach ball, and a shopping trolley, within 100 metres of the highway.

State Governor Linda Dessau is to visit the region next week as part of the 10th anniversary of the Black Saturday bushfires. She will visit the Whittlesea Community Activity Centre on Friday next week.

Respected journalist Lauren Duffy is to take on the combined job as Editor and General Manager of the Whittlesea Review, North Central Review, and Free Press at Romsey and Lancefield. In recent years, she has been at Horsham and Mildura.

Several places are available for the Rivers and Ranges community leadership program starting at the end of February. Passionate community leader sfrom Nillumbik, Yarra Ranges and Murrindindi are sought.

In sport, victory for home bowls teams on Tuesday. Broadford 81 defetaed Eildon 64. Seymout 83 won, over VRI 46. Wallan 76 were too good for Kilmore 57. Yea 88 beat Alex 63.

Weather: Scattered thudnerstorms are on the way Wednesday. Alex can expect a top temperature of 33, Eltham 35, Healesville 33, Kinglake and Marysville, each 31, Whittlesea 34, and Yea 33.
