Flowerdale couple Lyn and Brenton Gunter were last week recognised by Murrindindi Shire Council, ahead of the 10-year anniversary of the 2009 bushfires. Mayor, Cr Sandice McAulay, said: “The 10-year anniversary of the 2009 Bushfires is fast approaching, and with it comes a difficult time for our community and other fire-affected communities across the state.

Emergency services attended the scene of a fatal motorbike crash in Diamond Creek this afternoon (Sunday). It is believed the motorcyclist was travelling along Ironbark Rd when the bike veered off the road and over an embankment just after 1pm. The Sunday Herald Sun reports that Kinglake policeman Cameron Caine is seeking compensation from Victoria Police. Journalist Anthony Dowsley says Leading Senior Constable Cameron Caine has been unable to work for the past 13 months as a result of post-traumatic stress disorder after the Black Saturday bushfires. The former Chief Executive Officer of Murrindindi Shire Council, Margaret Abbey, was today (Sat.) listed as an Australia Day recipient of the Public Service Medal. The citation reads: “For outstanding public service to local government, and through contributions to the communities of the Murrindindi Shire through the period of recovery after the 2009 Victorian Bushfires.”
UPDATE: A number CFA units have made their way to Murrindindi after a phone report from a citizen of a local fire. The fire was reported near the Murrindindi River, south of Myles Rd. At 7.55pm, additional fire volunteers from areas including Toolangi were told to return to their stations.
Tamara Wilson has been named as Murrindindi Shire’s ‘Young Citizen of the Year’.
