Alexandra races abandoned
Saturday, March 2, 2019
UPDATED: Saturday’s picnic meeting at Alexandra was abandoned by RV Stewards due to the state of the track.
Jockeys voted against proceeding with the meeting.
A malfunctioning sprinkler on the adjoining golf course was blamed for leaving a wet surface near the finishing post.
However, Ross Thompson from the Alexandra Golf Club contacted The Local Paper to say there was no way that a Golf Club sprinkler was to blame for the problem on the race track.
Mr Thompson said that an engineer had checked the situation, and the Golf Club were not to blame for the situation. He said it was more likely than a pipe underneath the race club was the cause. He said investigations are continuing.
The situation is similar to that of the Yea Race Club which had to abandon its December 2017 meeting on a fine day, because of water on their track believed to be due to a faulty water pipe.
