Petition to seal Saleyards St

A petition submitted by Philip Armstrong, and signed by 19 people, is urging Murr-indindi Council to seal Sale-yards St, Yea.

The petition is due to be tabled at the Council meeting tonight (Wed.) at Alexandra.

A Shire officer is recommending that the petition by referred to Stuart McConnell, Council’s Director of Assets and Development, for a report to be prepared for the September 25 meeting.

“Council permitted the initial subdivision of blocks on Saleyards St to proceed without imposing a sealed road condition on the developer,” says a report to Councillors.

Increased traffic volume is expected on the unsealed section of Saleyards St following Council’s recent approval of a planning permit for the Smith St subdvision, it is argued.

“The dust created by the existing traffic on Saleyards St is impacting on the health and wellbeing of the current residents,” the petition argues.

“It is anticipated that this will only become worse with higher traffic flows.”

Councillors are being advised that the “existing contraction standard of Moyle St” will accomodate the additional eight new dwellings that will require access from this road (Moyle St)”.

Notes prepared by the Council’sd Development Engineer say that”no aiitional contribuitions will need to be made by existing residents to the north of Smith St”.

“Saleyards St is the only street north of Smith St,” the report contends.

“Nowhere in this report does the Council’s Development Engineer give an opinion as to the suitability of Saleyards St to accommodate additional traffic traffic requiring access to the four allotments proposed off Smith St”.

Councillors are due to vote at tonight’s meeting.
