Alex. Rebels look forward to 2020

Alexandra Football-Netball Club’s plans for 2020 are well underway, according to this report by Club President Ray Steyger:

In 2020, the AFL Outer East Football/Netball League will provide competition again in three divisions – Premier, Division 1 and Division 2 with some movement between the Divisions.

The Murrindindi Shire clubs of Alexandra, Kinglake, Thornton-Eildon and Yea remain together in Division 2 with Seville and Gembrook-Cockatoo moving into Division 1, Warburton-Millgrove moving into Division 2, and Broadford joining the League and also moving into Division 2 to maintain a nine-team division.

The Alexandra Football/Netball Club has previously announced the appointment of the following coaches for the 2020 season with Sam Kidd re-appointed as senior coach assisted by Daniel Crane and Nick Wal. Scott Whitehead was also re-appointed as Reserves coach and Scott Ferrier re-appointed as Under 18s coach.

In netball, all coaches were re-appointed so Lucy Wallis will coach A and B grades, Michelle Jack will coach C grade and Karen Richards will coach D grade.

Pre-season practice games have been organised with Alexandra hosting Whitehorse Pioneers on Saturday, March 21 at Rebel Park and Alexandra travelling to Murchison on Saturday, April 4 for football and netball matches.

Pre-season training for all open age football will commence at 6pm, Wednesday, January 29 at Rebel Park and netball training is to be confirmed.

The Club and coaches are pleased to welcome all past players, football and netball, and anyone that would like to come along and join in, everyone is very welcome. Any enquiries please contact Ray Steyger on 5772 2627.

In junior football, the Club has re-appointed John Tossol to coach the under 16s, re-appointed Brad Miljkovic to coach the Under 14s, Brad Howell to coach the Under 12s and re-appointed Daniel Crane to coach the Under 10s.

The Club has re-appointed Mandy Gesler to coach the Under 15s and Penny Van Lierop to coach the Under 13s, with the Under 11s netball to be coached by Kelly Golland, Emma Kidd and Natalie Stewart.

The Seymour District Junior Football-Netball League has also undergone some changes since last year and will not be providing an Under 16 football competition in 2020.

The Club has been exploring options and at this time will be fielding an Under 16 football team in the AFL Yarra Ranges Junior League on Sundays.

The two Leagues are working together on a fixture that will enable Alexandra’s Under 16 football team to play home games as often as possible together with the balance of Alexandra’s junior football and netball teams with an Under 16 fixture to be confirmed.

The SDJFNL competition will start with round 1 on Sunday, April 4 on the first weekend of school holidays: Alexandra hosting Yea at Rebel Park, then the League having a general bye for Easter followed by round 2 on Sunday, April 19, which sees Alexandra travel to Euroa.

Information re junior football and netball pre-season training will be confirmed and announced in coming weeks.
