Rebels Recycle project expands

The Alexandra Football-Netball Club commenced an aluminium can recycling project in late 2015. Key aim of the project is to reduce the amount of material going into landfill as well as providing some income for the Club.

The project has collected over 3700 kilograms of aluminium cans that have been recycled which means the project has prevented over 3.7 tonnes of aluminium cans going into our local landfill.

The project is ongoing with Richard Jack as the project manager. There are wheelie bins with red lids marked “cans only” at the Alexandra Showgrounds and Recreation Reserve alongside the Alexandra Football-Netball Club rooms where people enter the Reserve. Please deposit aluminium cans (crushed if possible) in the bins.

The Club is working with a number of local residents as well as local sports clubs including the Alexandra Bowls Club, Alexandra Cricket Club, Alexandra Golf Club and Alexandra Race Club and local businesses including DELWP Alexandra, Goulburn Valley Water, Grant Street Grocer, the Mt Pleasant and Shamrock Hotels and caravan parks including Eildon Waters and Molesworth.

If you have a residence / business / school that generates aluminium cans, the club will be happy to deliver a Club bin for storage of cans with the bins emptied by the Club on a regular basis. Thanks to the support of the Eildon Opportunity Shop, the Club has been able to purchase additional bins for a growing list of “customers” in the Club’s project.

If you have any questions, please contact Ray Steyger on 5772 2627 or Richard Jack on 5772 3355. Thank you to all project supporters in a true community effort.
