Push for Black Spur alternative

The need to separate motor vehicles from cyclist on the Maroondah Hwy from Fernshaw to St Ronan’s Well was emphasised at a tour organised by the Black Spur Action Group on Saturday (Feb. 22).

Organisers including Ray Donkin and Peter Johnson welcomed a full load of passengers of a bus tour of an alternative track across the Black Spur.

Pressure will continue on Parliamentarians and Councils. In attendance was Cr Sandice McAulay of Murrindindi Shire Council, and Kerri Goding (representing Eildon MLA Cindy McLeish).

A letter from Tania Maxwell MLC was read to the gathering.

Last Saturday’s tour, on a bus provided by McKenzie’s, was accompanied by a Parks Victoria vehicle.

Organisers are keen to see the track opened to cyclists, so that motorists can have a clearer trip from Healesville to Dom Dom Saddle.

The bus tour followed a well-attended public meeting at Marysville. Those in attendance at the meeting included representatives from VicRoads and Murrindindi Shire Council.

Most of the alternative route is within the Yarra Ranges Shire.

Saturday’s trip also saw Tim Quilty, MLC (Liberal Democrat), in attendance.

Group member Peter Johnson said that the focus of the group is to lobby the relevant authorities, government departments and politicians to ensure that the Black Spur is made as safe and enjoyable to use.

The groiup says the road to residents, businesses, and the community to ensure confidence for the ongoing safety and development in the Murrindindi Shire and beyond.

The group is comprised of residents who use and love the road.

The meeting heard that ongoing representations will be made to Jaala Pulford, Minister for Roads and Road Safety.
