Saturday, August 15, 2020
Watsonia Football Club and Plenty Valley Cricket Club will have a new home at Binnak Park in Watsonia North, with cash from the North-East Link Project negotiated by Banyule Council.
This follows Banyule Council’s withdrawal from a Supreme Court Judicial Reviewagainst the State Government over the Link.
The temporary home for Watsonia Football Club and Plenty Valley Cricket Club will see new facilities built at Binnak Park which is in Anderson Pde.
Facilities will include a refurbished sports oval, score board, cricket practice nets, sports field lighting and a new pavilion.
Binnak Park, Ford Park (West Ivanhoe) and Greensborough College are the main sporting facilities in Banyule to get upgrades, with clubs moving to call these grounds home from mid-2021.
Other clubs include: Yarra Junior Football League (YJFL), Watsonia Heights Soccer Club, Macleod Junior Football Club and Macleod Cricket Club.
Some clubs, aren’t moving home ground, though will use these facilities to help with overflow capacity: St Marys Greensborough Junior Football Club and St Marys Football Club.
Ford Park has been identified as a relocation site for the Yarra Junior Football League and improvements will be carried out to support YJFL and the clubs that currently call the park home – Ivanhoe Junior Football Club and Bellfield Cricket Club.
The design and works are consistent with Banyule Council’s master plan for Ford Park and will include redevelopment of the southern oval, upgrading sports field lighting, building a new pavilion, new synthetic turf cricket nets and more car parking.
Greensborough College has been identified as a temporary alternative for clubs that currently use Gabonia Reserve or Winsor Reserve for some training and games.
