A man has been arrested after he drove towards police at a service station in Altona Meadows on Sunday morning.

While on patrol Public Order Response Team officers approached the man after he pulled into a service station bay, on the Point Cook Rd exit of the Princes Hwy, just after 1.20am.

The driver ignored a police direction to turn off his vehicle and drove towards police.

An approaching police officer had to take evasive action and discharged his firearm. The 64-year-old driver turned into Harrison Ct.
