NILLUMBIK: Deputy Mayor Clarke won’t re-stand
Saturday, September 5, 2020
Former Nillumbik Mayor Cr Peter Clarke has announced that he will be not be re-standing at next month’s municipal elections.
“I will not be seeking re-election in Nillumbik at this year’s October elections and I encourage the next Wingrove Councillor to plan for our future, care for the environment and our residents in an economically sustainable manner,” Cr Clarke said.
“I will be watching closely and encouraging a new generation to take up the challenge.
“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have been elected as a local Government Councillor.
“Local government has been part of my life for nearly 20 years, first elected in 1981 at Heidelberg (now Banyule) then in 2004 at City of Melbourne and most recently in 2016 the Shire of Nillumbik.
“I was first elected in my late 20’s and starting out in business. No internet, No computers, No mobile phones. It’s time for a fresh beginning.
“Susan and I have enjoyed meeting so many of our volunteers and community members and working with some excellent administrators, many who are local residents over the last 4 years,” Cr Clarke said.
