Saturday, October 31, 2020
Greensborough Highway Patrol impounded a car in Greensborough on Saturday morning (Oct. 31) after the probationary driver was allegedly speeding.
Police saw the Mazda 3 sedan travelling on the Metropolitan Ring Road about 2.53am.
It is alleged that the car was detected at 139kmh in an 80kmh speed zone before officers intercepted it.
The car was impounded on-the-spot for 30 days at a cost of $884.
The driver, a 33-year-old Mill Park man, is expected to be charged on summons for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45kmh and failing to display P plates.
This impound forms part of Operation Saturn, a 2½-week state-wide road policing operation.
The operation aims to prevent further trauma on our roads caused by dangerous driving in both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
It focuses on increased traffic on rural roads, drink and drug driving, seatbelt compliance and driving slowly.
Operation Saturn will run until 11.59pm on Sunday (Nov. 8).
