DAREBIN: Northcote is most liveable
Monday, January 17, 2022
The Darebin suburb of Northcote has scored a perfect 10 for liveability in a landmark study released today by global consultancy firm PwC.
The CityPulse2021 analysis gave Northcote top marks for the best place to live, work and play particularly in light of the daily changes to residents’ habits brought about by the pandemic.
The liveability research looked at a range of factors including accessibility to health, schools, parks, hospitality and shops.
It also measured other key factors such as street safety and walkability, with a special emphasis on what can be accessed within a 15 minute walk from home.
Darebin Mayor Cr Lina Messina says that Northcote embodies everything that Darebin stands for.
“Northcote is a perfect example of the diversity and vibrancy that exists across the whole of Darebin. It’s not just the cafes, music venues, local artists, parks and easy access to public transport.
“It’s about the way people across all of Darebin come together as a community and help each other, there’s a sense of belonging here that makes the whole municipality a very sought after place to live and work.”
Northcote has a culturally diverse population of close to 25,000 people with around 30 per cent of residents having at least one parent born overseas.
The PwC CityPulse analysis is released annually.
