Sam Hicks is Murrindindi Shire’s Citizen of the Year. Her award will be presented at the Alexandra Australia Day ceremony on Wednesday morning, January 26.

“Sam’s commitment to community and volunteerism is extraordinary,” says a Murrindindi Shire Council statement.

“Sam has been instrumental in applying for and co-ordinating a number of grants for renovations and improvements at the Fawcett Hall over the years.

“She has also been involved in getting Bendigo Bank community branches up and running within our Shire, including being a current Board Member in Yea.

“Sam was also involved in the Marysville Visitor Information Centre and the Marysville World’s Longest Lunch for a number of years.

“Most recently, Sam has played an integral part in getting the Alexandra Indoor Heated Pool Inc. up and running.

“Sam’s energy and drive to get things happening in the community is an inspiration to us all.” the statement said.
