Residents and visitors to Balnarring will now be able to cross Frankston-Flinders Rd more safely following the completion of new a pedestrian crossing and safety upgrades.
As part of the 2019 Election, the Federal Government committed to boost local pedestrian safety on the Mornington Peninsula, with $1 million provided to improve safety in the township of Balnarring.
Flinders MHR Greg Hunt said that the newly completed crossing would allow locals and visitors alike to cross Frankston-Flinders Rd safely, reducing the risk of accidents and making sure more residents and visitors alike make it home safely.
“Some of our busiest roads on the Mornington Peninsula converge in Balnarring, with speed limits as high as 80 kilometres per hour,” Mr Hunt said.
“It’s vital that school kids, seniors and everyday locals can cross these roads safely.
“Close to 600 community members signed a petition outlining that they saw a vital need for improved pedestrian safety in Balnarring; and I’m delighted I was able to provide $1 million to ensure these upgrades would go ahead.”
“We supported the Mornington Peninsula Shire in applying for funding at the state level which was unfortunately unsuccessful.
“This delivered federal funding removed the delay and allowed the Shire and VicRoads to get on with the job of improving safety on our road.”
“Additional federal funding is still waiting on the table for similarly much needed safety upgrades at the intersections of Forest Drive and Uralla Road and Nepean Highway in Mount Martha.
“I hope we will see progress from VicRoads and the Victorian Government on these vital projects soon,” Mr Hunt said.
