MORNINGTON PENINSULA: Zero carbon goal

Mornington Peninsula Shire has partnered with Repower Mornington Peninsula to lead community engagement and local action on emissions reduction to help reach the target of net zero emissions by 2040.
To confidently achieve this, they are aiming for a 70 per cent reduction in community emissions by 2030.
Repower Mornington Peninsula (formerly named eMPower) is a not-for-profit association of local Mornington Peninsula volunteers aiming to empower the community to decarbonise energy use at home and work.
Repower wants to assist us to electrify lives with renewable energy and significantly reduce the impact of carbon on climate.
To help achieve this, Repower Mornington Peninsula have launched their new website: repowermornpen.org.au
They have assembled data for every postcode to identify local community emissions and help each part of the Peninsula reach net zero. There are also guides for taking personal action and opportunities to join new community projects.
Notifications of upcoming workshops will be available in each area and residents are encouraged to gain a greater understanding of why it is important for all of us to:
n decarbonise our energy use as soon as possible.
n choose/generate renewable energy.
n get off gas and other fossil fuels for heating, hot water and cooking.
n improve our energy efficiency.
n have access to electric transport.
n have opportunities available to take personal and collective action.
The Mayor, Cr Anthony Marsh, said: “Repower Mornington Peninsula is helping local townships have ownership of their own emissions reduction targets and the activities required to meet them. This is a great initiative to drive down local emissions.”
Jim Goddard, President of Repower, said:
“By uniting with our local community to switch to clean renewable energy, we can have lower energy bills, a healthier environment to live in and create a stronger local economy – all while helping protect the Peninsula for the next generation. Together we can really do this.”
