HOBSONS BAY: Paid parking at Altona Beach

New parking measures are being introduced at Altona Beach precinct by Hobsons Bay Council.

The plan, approved at the December 13 meeting Council, introducees paid parking on the Esplanade in Altona.

The move will see 195 spaces between Sarros St and Millers Rd become paid parking spots. This includes 129 angled parking spaces closest to Pier St, which would be subject to three-hour parking restrictions, while the remaining 66 spaces would be all-day parks.

As one of the most popular places in Hobsons Bay for visitors, the paid parking will help increase the turnover of parking spaces, according to a Council statement.

“Residents in the area will be able to apply for free parking permits. To further protect on-street parking and access for residents, changes to other parking restrictions on residential streets near the beach will also be made, including the introduction of time restrictions. Residents with permits will be exempt from these time restrictions.

“”Some of these measures were included following feedback from resident and trader groups during the community consultation period.

“Altona Beach and the foreshore bring so many visitors to our city and the redevelopment of the area will only enhance that,” Cr Tony Briffa, Hobsons Bay Mayor, said.

“It’s important we enable as many people to access the area as possible and these new parking measures will do just that.

“Residents of the area have been consulted throughout this process, and their feedback has helped make sure their parking and access needs are met. We thank the residents for their engagement in this process.”
