MONASH: Man impersonates as Council officer

Monash Council says a resident has been visited at home by a man claiming to be from Council and wanting to install door seals in the resident’s home.

He requested personal details from the resident’s wife.

Monash Council does not undertake this type of work.

“If someone visits you at home and identifies as a Council worker, they should provide you with identification. You can call us on 9518 3555 to check their identification,” said a Council representative.

“Scamwatch, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s scam watchdog, reports that scammers target both individuals and businesses through a variety of scams including: Impersonating government or superannuation authorities and online shopping scams.”
