A man is in custody following a crash in an allegedly stolen vehicle in Fitzroy North.
Police Air Wing spotted a grey BMW wagon travelling at high speeds in Southbank about 1.30am on Tuesday last week (July 4).
The vehicle was allegedly driving approximately 120-kmh in a 40-kmh zone and failing to stop at red traffic lights in Richmond.
Highway patrol officers attempted to intercept the BMW on Nicholson St, Fitzroy North but the car didn’t stop.
Police disengaged and the Air Wing continued following the car. The wagon crashed into a coffee shop at the intersection of Nicholson St and Miller St.
A 43-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested and taken to hospital for observation under police guard. He is expected to be charged.
