MURRINDINDI: Troubles on the Trail

Murrindindi Shire’s Cr Karine Haslam says not everyone is using the Blue Gums Recreational Trail ‘appropriately’.
She has also received negative comments regarding the fencing at the AGL gates on the Back Eildon Rd.
“We are at the final stages of this project. This should be completed in the next few days,” Cr Haslam told the latest Council meeting.
“Even though the trail is not officially open yet, it is getting a lot of use from riders and walkers, which is fantastic and a much safer option than using the Back Eildon Road.
“When going for a walk, I encountered a parked car on the trail, and incredibly the occupants had lit a campfire, on the actual trail.
“There have also been other reports of vehicles on the trail. As a safety measure, additional bollards have had to be installed to stop this happening.
“I have also received some negative comments regarding the fencing at the AGL gates on the Back Eildon Road where the recreational trail joins the Eildon Pondage walking track.
“This has been identified as a high-risk area, due to the steep banks, and being so close to the release gates, also the path is quite narrow there. These measures have been put in place, as safety, is of utmost importance, at all times,” Cr Haslam said.
