MELTON: Affray at Kurunjang

Detectives from the Gang Crime Squad have charged two men following an affray where a firearm and a machete were produced in Kurunjang.
With assistance from the Special Operations Group, two men were arrested at a residential address in Melton West last Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 1).
A 26-year-old Kurunjang man was charged with affray and possess controlled weapon.
He was bailed to appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on January 28.
A 26-year-old Traralgon man was charged with affray, theft of motor vehicle, prohibited person possess firearm, possess prohibited weapon, possess ammunition, handle stolen goods, and fail to appear whilst on bail. He was to appear at Melbourne Magistrate’s Court.
Following the arrests, three search warrants were executed at residential addresses in Traralgon, Kurunjang and Melton West.
A handgun, a white Hyundai iLoad van, a previously stolen Holden wagon, a previously stolen VW Transporter, ammunition and small quantities of what appear to be cannabis and cocaine were seized from the addresses.
This activity follows an alleged affray in a Kurunjang convenience store around 3.40pm on Sunday, July 28.
An altercation occurred between a number of men inside the store.
A short time later, a white Hyundai iLoad van arrived at the address, and a 26-year-old Traralgon man exited the driver’s seat carrying a handgun.
An unknown passenger also exited the vehicle in possession of a machete.
Two males who were initially inside the store and involved in the affray then got into a red VE Commodore, and a further two ran from the scene on foot.
The 26-year-old Traralgon man then allegedly threatened the passengers in the Commodore, before they drive from the scene, heading west on Kirkton Drive.
One man remained at the scene and could be seen using a public telephone.
Almost 10 minutes later, the 26-year-old Kurunjang man returned to the scene in the white Hyundai. He ran towards the man using the public phone, before swinging the machete at him.
He missed both times, and the man was not physically injured during the incident.
The white Hyundai then tried to hit the male before he was chased away from the scene on foot.
There were no physical injuries during the incident.
