FRANKSTON: Accident probe at Carrum Downs


Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a collision in Carrum Downs on Tuesday night last week (Oct. 8) which left a woman with critical injuries.
The collision, between a motorcycle rider and pedestrian, occurred on McCormicks Rd about 7.20pm.
It appears the rider struck the woman as she crossed the road.
The 31-year-old Carrum Downs woman was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
The 29-year-old rider was arrested at the scene and was taken to hospital under police guard.
He was interviewed by Frankston and Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives last Wednesday morning (Oct. 9).
Local police were quickly on scene after coming across the rider just prior to the collision.
Officers were heading to another job and travelling along McCormicks Rd when the rider, along with another solo, turned in front of their vehicle from Gamble Rd.
It appears at this stage the rider immediately reacted and took off, just prior to the collision, when he spotted police.
Police were not in pursuit of the motorcycle at the time of the collision.
Enquiries have revealed the rider was unlicensed. He also returned a positive oral fluid test.
The Inverloch man has been charged with dangerous driving causing serious injury, drive in a manner dangerous and unlicensed driving.
He was to appear before Frankston Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 9).
Professional Standards Command will have oversight of the investigation, as per usual practice, where police have been in the vicinity of a critical injury collision.
