MURRINDINDI: Eildon key worker house design input needed
Murrindindi Shire Council is starting an important project to address housing shortages for key workers in the Eildon community. By providing essential housing, the Council aims to support the local economy, secure jobs, and sustain businesses.
With funding support from the State Government’s Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, the Council will be constructing dedicated key worker housing on two sites in Eildon, located at 10 Eighth St and 18 Twenty-First St.
This project stems from the Council’s Key Worker Housing Strategy and will provide key workers and their families with access to quality local housing, allowing them to live and thrive within our community.
“We are inviting community members to share their perspectives on the design of the modular housing by completing our survey,” said a Council representative. “Your input will help shape the appearance and character of this development.”
There will be local pop-up events in Eildon to chat with Council officers in person:
• Eildon Bowls Club – Wednesday, February 12, at 5.30pm to 7.30 pm
• Eildon Visitor Information Centre – Friday, February 14 from 2pm to 3 pm
• Eildon Grocer – Friday, February 14, from 4pm to 5 pm
Feedback closes at 12 Noon on Friday, February 21.
Murrindindi Shire Council MayorCr Damien Gallagher acknowledged that providing housing for key workers is essential to supporting the sustainability and vitality of our community.
“Business owners and operators in Murrindindi Shire experience challenges attracting and retaining key workers, skilled professionals and seasonal staff,” Cr Gallagher said.
“This is in part due to our rural location, limited public transport, and housing shortages. We have heard from local businesses that the shortage of housing and limited housing options are a barrier to them attracting and retaining staff. This project will help overcome these obstacles and support our local economy and businesses.”
Council’s Deputy Mayor and Eildon Ward representative, Cr Anita Carr said: “Community feedback is vital in shaping the design of these houses, and we encourage everyone to share their ideas to help us create appropriate living spaces for our key workers that fit in with the character of Eildon.”
