WYNDHAM: $333 million spend at Werribee … just ahead of by-election
Premier Jacinta Allan and Federal Minister Catherine King were in Werribee today (Jun. 23) to announce a $333.5 million spend … with the Werribee by-election to be held in just over two weeks’ time.
The funds will be invested towards the Werribee Main Rod – Princes Freeway Interchange Upgrade and the Ballan Rd Intersection Upgrade.
The Werribee Main Rd – Princes Freeway Interchange Upgrade will provide more traffic lights at key intersections, a roundabout at the Princes Freeway exit ramp to Wests Rd, a new lane to the Werribee Main Rd bridge, and an improved citybound entry ramp.
In Wyndham Vale, the Ballan Rd Intersection Upgrade will replace the current roundabout with traffic lights at McGrath, Ballan and Greens Rds.
The projects will both build on the benefits of the Ison Rd Overpass and Extension, which is expected to be completed next year.
The two upgrades will create 1624 jobs, and Major Road Projects Victoria will deliver the upgrades, with construction timelines to be confirmed once detailed design plans progress.
“Every Victorian wants to spend less time stuck in traffic and more time with family – that’s why we’re delivering major road upgrades across Melbourne’s west and faster and safer journeys for decades to come,” Ms Allan said,
Ms King said: “We are comitted to working with the Victorian Government to deliver quality transport infrastructure projects that get people home faster and safer, which is why we’re investing in these crucial road upgrades at Werribee and Wyndham Vale.”
Transport Infrastructure Minister Gabrielle Williams said: “We are getting on and delivering these two important road upgrades in Melbourne’s west, which will pave the way for faster and safer journeys for decades to come.”
Lalor MR Joanne Ryan said: “Only Labor is committed to building Wyndham’s future. This investment in essential local infrastructure will reduce congestion, ease the travel burden for residents commuting to work, and, most importantly, ensure that they return home safely.”
