MORNINGTON PENINSULA: Licence plates scanned at McCrae landslide site
Licence plate recognition equipment has been installed near the site of the McCrae landslide, Mornington Peninsula Mayor cr Anthony Marsh has confirmed.
“Extensive investigations and testing continue. This includes geotechnical assessments, drainage investigations, extensive water testing, and monitoring of ground movements,” Cr Marsh said.
“CCTV cameras, including those with Licence Plate Recognition technology, will be installed today (Froday) at strategic locations around the site. These cameras will aid Victoria Police with their surveillance. Signs identifying the presence of CCTV and warning people to avoid the site will also be erected.
A Victoria Police statement said” “Victoria Police personnel have been and will continue to be active in the area of McCrae. This activity will continue for the foreseeable future. These police patrols consist of both overt and covert activity aimed at ensuring community safety.
“Victoria Police encourages members of the public who witness any suspicious activity or persons inside the exclusion zone at McCrae to ring 000 immediately.”
The Department of Transport and Planning and VicSES have advised the Council that Point Nepean Rd was to reopen on Friday. A speed reduction of 40-kmh will be in place between 579 and 641 Point Nepean Rd. Electronic signage boards will be positioned near 569 and 655 Point Nepean Rd to advise drivers of the speed reduction. Traffic management for local McCrae roads will remain in place until further notice.
A Council representative said: “We are working with VicSES to transition the management of the site from response to recovery to the Mornington Peninsula Shire under agreed terms. This phase will see the Shire continue to provide support to affected residents while the extensive investigations continue.”
Cr Marsh said: “I have written to the State Government seeking technical and financial assistance in responding to this complex and challenging situation.
“Our community drop-in centre will operate daily from the Dromana Visitor Information Centre (359B Point Nepean Road, Dromana) from 10am to 4pm if you require further information and referrals to support services.”Our community information page on our website will be updated regularly as new information becomes available: mornpen.vic.gov.au/mccraelandslide.
“We are working with our agency partners to investigate the source and cause of the landslide. We are focused on identifying the necessary rectification and remediation works to make the area safe again.
