ECHUCA: Arrest after car theft from elderly man
Campaspe Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged car theft in Echuca last week.
It is alleged the man stole the Mazda 2 sedan from a property on Hare St about 5.15am on Wednesday (Jan. 22).
Police spotted the man in the allegedly stolen car in Bendigo on Friday (Jan. 24) and he was arrested.
The 31-year-old Bendigo man was charged with theft of motor vehicle, attempted theft from motor vehicle (x2) and unlicensed driving.
He was bailed to appear at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on March 31.
It is understood unknown offenders gained access to the 92-year-old victim’s shed at his property on Hare St and stole his motorised scooter between 4pm on January 20 and 8.15am on January 21.
The Mazda has been recovered but the scooter, which is valued at approximately $5000, remains outstanding.
