MELBOURNE: Zali is on First Nations Committee
Zali Mifsud is the youngest member of the City of Melbourne’s First Nations Committee.
She says that she is thinking ahead to her great, great, great, great, great grandchildren.
“We have a principle as Aboriginal people, which is the seventh-generation principle,” Zali said.
“The decisions we make today are not for myself, or my children or my grandchildren.
“They’re for seven times beyond us.”
Zali is ready to learn from Elders on the committee, including co-chair Aunty Di Kerr, a respected Wurundjeri Elder and Traditional Owner of the land where the committee meets in the City of Mel-bourne.
Aunty Di graces the committee with strong leadership and cultural knowledge.
