YARRA: Warehouse fire at Richmond
Fire Rescue Victoria responded to a structure fire at 2.26am Tuesday (Mar. 4) on David St, Richmond, after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a warehouse fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find a two-storey brick warehouse, about 20m by 30m, fully involved and the response was escalated to a fourth alarm.
Crews wore breathing apparatus to battle the blaze externally due to the size of the building, its unknown contents, and structural integrity concerns in the early stages of the firefight.
Early indications were an exposure on one side of the building had spread to a neighbouring property.
Firefighters made use of aerial appliances to assist in containing the blaze.
A community advice warning was issued for smoke in the area, specifically for residents within a 2km radius of the scene.
Victoria Police was on the scene and established a traffic management plan to block-off traffic in the area.
As of 3.15am, the fire was not yet under control.
Crews were not yet able to conduct a search of the property to ascertain whether it was vacant.
