MURRINDINDI: ‘Irregularities at Council’ says forensic accountant
Veteran forensic accountant Garry Angus appeared before Murrindindi Shire Council last Wednesday (Mar. 26), calling for an urgent investigation into what he saw as irregularities associated with the municpality.
Mr Angus said he was engaged to investigate financial matters regarding a property development at Careys Rd-Williamsons Rd at Killingworth, Yea.
“What I have uncovered are possible irregularities involving Council approvals as well as suspect conduct,” Mr Angus said.
“These concerns are serious and warrant closer scrutiny by the Council,” Mr Angus said.
Mr Angus said that there were possible breaches of the law or procedural concerns. He said that there were potential conflicts of interest and fiduciary duties and interests.
Mr Angus produced an envelope marked ‘Strictly Private and Confidential’ containing his allegations in writing. This envelope was received by the Council’s CEO, Livia Bonazzi.
Mr Angus said the envelope contained sensitive information, and should be discussed in a closed session of Council.

Mr Lloyd, now Whittlesea Council’s controversial CEO, was Chief Executive at Murr-indindi Shire from 2018-2020, following on from Margaret Abbey.
Mr Lloyd started at Whittlesea Council in October 2020. There is a public petition for Mr Lloyd to leave his $400,000-a-year top job.
