MELBOURNE: $154m for capital works
The City of Melbourne’s 2025-26 draft has $154 million for capital works, says Lord Mayor Nick Reece (pictured).
At Southbank, more than $5.3 million will go towards building a larger, modern library at the Boyd Community Hub.
An additional $2.2 million will kickstart transformation of the underused and unsightly City Road Undercroft into a vibrant new park.
More than $40 million will be invested over the next four years to redevelop the North Melbourne Community Centre – creating a contemporary facility in the heart of the Macaulay urban renewal area.
There will be a new library and family services centre in the Queen Victoria Market precinct, and the soon-to-open Kensington Community Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
Work is underway to complete the first stage of the Greenline Project at Birrarung Marr – with $18 million to finish delivering 450 metres of new boardwalks, promenades and greening by the end of 2025.
“This Budget delivers on our promise of a better Melbourne – building the facilities and spaces our community deserves,” said Cr Reece.
“Southbank is crying out for new public spaces.”
