MERRI-BEK: Death in Brunswick


Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident in Brunswick where a man became unresponsive following his arrest and subsequently died.
Officers were called to the intersection of Sydney Rd and Albert St about 9.30pm on Friday, June 6, to assist paramedics with an agitated man who subsequently became aggressive.
The 43-year-old Brunswick man left the paramedics and started to walk off along Sydney Rd when he was arrested by police.
He was then placed into an ambulance and subsequently became unresponsive whilst en route to hospital.
The man passed away in hospital on Tuesday night, June 10.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad are investigating the incident with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as per standard practice where someone dies after being taken into police custody.
