STONNINGTON: $292 million for Alfred Hospital
The State Government is making a $292 million investment in the Alfred Hospital to ‘future proof’ it.
“The Alfred Hospital is a keystone of the Victorian health system – treating Victoria’s most acute and complex patients as one of Victoria’s longest running major tertiary health services and one of only two adult trauma services,” said a Government representative.
This funding will support important infrastructure upgrades at The Alfred, improving patient experience and supporting the work of dedicated health care workers.
This includes upgrading patient wards in the Main Ward Block, enhancing fire safety, and reinforcing critical infrastructure systems such as the air handling units, electrical infrastructure and the heating and cooling plant.
Founded in 1871, The Alfred is Melbourne’s oldest hospital still operating at its original site, on the corner of Commercial and Punt Rds in Prahran, with much of the building constructed in the 1960s.
A design team of architects, engineers, quantity surveyors and building surveyors has been appointed to provide specialist expertise on the project.
Melissa Horne, Minister for Health Infrastructure (pictured), said: “The Alfred has been delivering world-class care for more than 150 years – these upgrades are vital to ensuring more Victorians are supported by the dedicated doctors, nurses and allied health staff now and into the future.”
