CARDINIA: Battin presents Beaconsfield Reservoir petition
Berwick MLA Brad Battin (pictured) has presented a 3706 signature petition to Parliament from Officer and District Community Association, and the Save the Beaconsfield Reservoir Action Group, residents of Cardinia Shire, City of Casey, and surrounding communities about Beaconsfield Reservoir
The petition says that the Victorian State Government and Melbourne Water have kept the Beaconsfield Reservoir locked away from public view for decades.
“They are now planning to drain most of the reservoir, demolish a substantial part of the dam wall, and continue keeping it locked up,” the petition said.
The Government is being asked that:
• The Beaconsfield Reservoir’s current water level of 8.85 metres is maintained,
• The historic dam wall at current height be retained,
• The surrounding parkland be opened to public access,
• The reserve be turned into a public park, with facilities provided to enhance the accessibility and useability.
