MONASH: Council clahes with cricket clubs

Monash City Council has told local circket clubs that they need to vacate grounds by the start of March 2026 in the upcoming summer season. The ban will make midweek training difficult for clubs playing in finals.
Club officials point out that Eastern Cricket finals were still being played on the March 15-16 weekend earlier this year.
The Grand Finals in the neighbouring Ringwood District Cricket Association were played on the March 22-23 weekend.
“Monash Council allocates sports grounds for a five month season, leaving March and September for essential works to prepare the grounds for the next season,”: said a statement attributed to Mayor Cr Paul Klisaris (pictured).
“In recent years both winter and summer sports associations have extended their fixtures, leaving little time for season changeover.
“Some cricket clubs with turf pitches have requested to be able to play until the end of March in the upcoming summer season. We are considering these requests to extend usage where circumstances allow.
