HUME: Campaign to name and shame
Hume City Council is doubling its efforts to stamp out rubbish dumping on local streets through a name and shame community awareness campaign.
The move comes as part of the Dob in a Dumper campaign that’s been reinforcing Council’s stance on rubbish behaviour, by encouraging locals to report dumpers to council and cracking down strong on offenders.
The Council will be rolling out weekly posts on social media and digital platforms that name and shame those that have already been caught and prosecuted.
Hume City Mayor, Cr Jarrod Bell, said: “We’re as sick of seeing illegal dumping in our streets as residents, and it was time we took the necessary measures to show just how fed up we are.
“We hear the complaints, but the fact is it’s not Council dumping rubbish in our streets, it’s community members, businesses, friends and neighbours.
“The message is clear – if you think it would be embarrassing to be identified as a dumper, that should show you it’s not on. We are determined to hold people accountable.”
