MERRI-BEL: Factory blaze in North Coburg
Fire Rescue Victoria responded to an incident on Acheson Place, Coburg North, at 5:56am on Sunday morning, October 12, following multiple Triple Zero (000) calls reporting thick black smoke coming from a factory.
Firefighters arrived to find a two-storey, 10×30 metre brick factory with a front office, fully involved in fire.
A 38-year-old man, who was opening the workshop at the time, discovered the fire and sustained minor burns.
Ambulance Victoria was called to assist.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus swiftly entered the ground floor to extinguish the flames, while external crews operating the Teleboom provided support.
The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes, by 6.42am.
A community warning was issued for a large volume of smoke in the surrounding area.
The building sustained significant damage.
The local council’s Building Surveyor was requested to attend, and FRV Fire Investigators were to be on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
Firefighters remained on site throughout the morning to continue fire duties.
