NORTH-EAST: Doreen traders have concerns
Northern Victloria MLC Wendy Lovell (pictured) as called on Gabrielle Infrastructure, Minister for Transport Infrastructure, to meet with business owners at the Doreen Business Precinct and hear their request for extra car parking and a bicycle depot near the new intersection of Yan Yean Rd with Bridge Inn Rd.
“A reference design and artist’s impressions for the new intersection have been released, which seem to show that after the road realignment public land surrounding the Old General Store and Post Office will be covered in tall trees,” Ms Lovell said.
“Business owners are worried that these trees would significantly obscure the view of Doreen Business Precinct from both Yan Yean Rd and Bridge Inn Rd, and may interfere with signage rights for the business park that traders were assured would be maintained.”
Ms Lovell spoke in Parliament to call on the Minister to meet with retailers who have long held concerns about the negative impact on their businesses once drivers are diverted away from the precinct’s former entry points after the Yan Yean Road Stage 2 upgrade is completed.
“I call on the Minister to meet with traders, and consider their proposed solution that includes new public car parking sites, as well as a bike depot and secure storage area to encourage active transport, all of which will help maintain visibility of the business precinct from the road,” Ms Lovell said.
